What is British Crisp Co about?

Handcooked in the UK using exclusively British potatoes, these tasty crisps combine no-nonsense flavours with classic crunch. Made on a farm that not only grows its own potatoes, but is powered by renewable energy. How good is that? So, these crisps don't just taste good - they do good, too. The traditional British flavours - 5 in total - combined with premium, triple ply packaging for a quintessentially British snacking experience. The British Crisp Co packaging celebrates the best of Britain. The design motifs pay homage to British culture and heritage.

How did it all start?

Thomas Lock – Founder of The British Snack Co - started making pork scratchings in his mum’s kitchen and have since grown the company to a multi-brand entity that turns over in excess of £1m. We are the only completely vegan and allergen free crisp brand on the market. Not fun, but important!

 

Best feedback you've received?

Because we strip out allergens and nasties and make our products using simple, natural ingredients, people who usually are unable to consume snacks can eat our products. I once had an email from a lady who said I had changed her life because she could finally enjoy snacks – she was allergic to almost everything!

 

Bizarrely, my proudest moment was when I saw an empty pack of our snacks as litter on the streets of London! I did pick it up and put it in the bin, but when you’ve made it to litter – you’ve made it!

 

Biggest challenge you overcame in creating/growing the brand?

When we first launched, we were approached by bigger competitors who said they wanted to “help” us get our brand out there. In reality, they wanted to drown us to maintain market share. The biggest challenge was seeing the wood through the trees and realising they saw us as a threat.

 

What's next?

We are about to launch a first to market Lomo Crisp – air dried, Spanish pork loin. The perfect low carb, high protein alternative to a crisp.
